Fat Guy Corner
I must ask, is November not one of the greatest months for all of us who love sports?
The NHL hockey season and NBA basketball seasons have just started. The college basketball season has officially started and features some top programs playing each other. (How could you not love watching Michigan State and Gonzaga the other night? I will get into that game more later.)
The college football season is winding down and we are approaching key regular season games and conference championship games. The race for the four playoff spots this season will be wide open and who will get in is going to be fabulous drama. I say, let the debate begin.
I will say as I stated last week, I am rooting for a TCU Horned Frog team to crash the party of the college football playoffs. The Horned Frogs passed a stiff test beating Texas last Saturday night.
Let’s not forget, no shave November too! I love November and hope you all do too!
How about the start of the Detroit Red Wings hockey season? I have watched only three games so far and I like what I see. The goaltending has been solid between Ville Husso and Alex Nedeljkovic. The goals against average for Husso has been solid at 2.54. I believe the starting job will be Husso’s all season long and he will play the majority of the games.
I like the play of Andrew Copp so far also. I am sure like many others who follow the Red Wings I could watch Mo Seider play hockey no matter what team he played for. I think Seider’s ceiling is as high as he wants on the ice at the age of 21. Can the Red Wings compete all season long for a playoff spot? I think they can actually, however, time will tell.
The Pistons have had a rough start to their NBA season. They currently sit at 3-11 and dead last in the Eastern Conference. I have personally only watched one game against the Boston Celtics and the “Stons” were blown out. I do realize the Pistons are very young and not expected to compete for much in 2022-23. The reports are Jaden Ivey, the No. 1 pick has played pretty well so far. I like the fact that Detroit has a scorer in Bojan Bogdanovic, who they got in a trade from the Utah Jazz. I will have to watch more games to properly access the Pistons basketball team and if I like the direction the team is headed in.
I want to say the Michigan State and Gonzaga hoop game was a great college basketball game. The Spartans had the lead at halftime but the “Zags” prevailed in the second half winning 64-63. The Spartans, I thought, looked good and had balanced scoring on the offensive end.
The problem became Michigan State had no answers for Drew Timme from Gonzaga. I can tell you, the Michigan State basketball program will be fine this year. The Gonzaga basketball program is one of the top three in college basketball.
The Michigan State football team defeated Rutgers last Saturday 27-21. The victory pulled the Spartans to a 5-5 record. The Spartans would love to win their next two contests against Indiana and Penn State. The Spartans kickoff is set for noon on Saturday in East Lansing, Mich.
The Wolverines will have a noon kickoff in Ann Arbor, Mich. against Illinois. The Wolverines at 10-0 need to avoid looking ahead to the Ohio State game and take care of Illinois on Saturday afternoon. I like Michigan and Michigan State to both post victories on Saturday.

I would like to wish all the best to hunters who hit the woods this week and weekend. May the Big Buck (not Wayne Fontes) cross your path.
